GOLF NEWS: CARLOS O’REILLY WINS THE SENIOR BOYS COMPETITION AT DUNFANAGHY

Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes:

The Wednesday open competition this week was won by Stanley Johnson playing off 21 with a great score of 38 points in difficult conditions. The ever consistent Cathal McMonagle playing off a handicap of 9 was second on 37 points with Joe Terry in third place.

In the Saturday open competition there were some fantastic scores however it was James McCormack, playing off a handicap of 7 who came out on top with a traffic score of 41 points. Joe Langan was second with 40 points while Joe Terry picked up another prize with his third place finish. Shane Greer won the gross with 33 points.

In the Mental Health Golf Classic played on Friday the 24th, first place went to S Collins, B McGee, M McGee and M Murray with 98 points. Second were Joe Terry, Seamus McCauley , Cairns Witherow and William Hamilton with 92 points. In third place was the team of M McGinley,  J McGinley, N Gallagher and P Harkin. Nearest the pin went to Andy Murray and longest drive went to S Collins.

Note to members: – due to the inclement weather on Sunday, the McCrae cup has been postponed and will be played on 17 July.

The Thumbs Up Cycle Wax and Shave Night took place in the clubhouse on Saturday 25th June. Well done to the brave soles who participated and thanks also to those who supported the event. The Thumbs Up Cycle in aid of the RNLI and Mulroy Coastguard takes place from Mizen to Malin from the 2nd to the 9th August.

JUNIOR GOLF

The winner of the senior boy’s competition this week was Carlos O’Reilly with sparkling score of 41 points. Well done to Carlos who is showing steady improvement. Eoin Flanagan was second while James Sweeney got the bronze medal.  The acadamy winner this week was Jack Druce who won in a play-off from Aidan McFadden. Shot of the day went to Sean McBride.

In the juveniles section, we had an extremely closely fought contest with Michael Dolan and David Daly finishing in a “dead heat”. Well done to both boys.

This Wednesday is our usual Gents Wednesday members €7.00 and Visitors €15.00

Friday evening sees the return of our summer evening scrambles at 6.30pm. Please call into the shop before to put your name down.

Saturday is Gents Open Single Stableford with member €7.00 and Visitors €15.00

Sunday is Gents Monthly Medal Stroke

This week is the beginning of our Summer time hours in the clubhouse with the Vardon Lounge now open.

Wednesday to Sunday 12pm-8pm with daily special offers available.

Function Room for Private Parties:

We have hosted a number of private functions in the clubhouse recently and these have proved to be a great success. If you, or someone you know, is organising a private function please be aware that the clubhouse is available free of charge, with exclusive use for the occasion. So far, the feedback that we have been getting is that the golf club is the ideal venue for parties of up to one hundred people. Please make contact with Sarah if you are interested in holding a function at the clubhouse (074 91 36335)
