TYRONE STAGE COMEBACK TO BEAT DONEGAL IN ULSTER FINAL

donegal v tyroneTYRONE are the 2016 Ulster Champions.

The Red Hand county staged an astonishing comeback after trailing for long periods to steal the Anglo-Celt at a baking hot Clones today.

And Mickey Harte’s side won out 0-13 to 0-11 in the end, seconds after Michael Murphy had a chance to equalise the game.

Sean Kavanagh was magnificent for Tyrone, scoring superb points from play and ending Donegal dreams of a double after the minor victory over Derry earlier.

Peter Harte hit one of the best points you will see to help seal the victory.

Donegal were so so close in a game which demanded hugh energy from both sets of players.

And they led going into the closing stages. But it wasn’t to be.

Donegal had led by three points at half-time.

Ryan McHugh had a brilliant first half, hitting three of Donegal’s points.

McBrearty hit two and captain Michael Murphy and midfielder Odhran Mac Niallais hit the other scores.

But there were two other talking points – with two black cards issued to Tyrone players which appeared harsh.

First Mattie Donnelly was given his marching orders; he looked distraught in the dug-out.

And the ultra-defensive football on display in the second half meant it wasn’t a classic by any means.

In the end Tyrone ground out the victory, old master Harte winning over Rory Gallagher’s side.
