A “Free Wee Library” has been launched at Tory Island Hostel by the King of Tory Island, Patsy Dan Rodgers.
Located outside the hostel, the library is available for islanders and visitors, and has been well stocked with a supply of English and Irish books, also available at the Free Library is some visitor information and books about Tory Island.
The Free Wee Library project began in Buncrana, in May 2013. A trail of little outdoor wooden structures were designed and placed in public spaces. Each library is stocked with books donated by the community.
The libraries function on a honesty policy, if you take a book you return a book. The project aims to promote literacy, encourage exercise, promote community arts programmes and positive mental health.
The Free Wee Library is a great addition available facilities available to the community of Tory Island, also attending the launch was well known musician Dermot Byrne.
Tory Hostel, where the Free Wee Library is located is delighted to be able to provide this additional facility on Tory.
