Donegal’s new inter-county Gaelic Masters team lined out in their first game of the tournament against Antrim last weekend in a new team kit, sponsored by Abbott’s diabetes facility in Donegal.

The team got off to a great start by defeating Antrim 2.13 to 0.7. The championship is run by the Gaelic Masters Association and is the competitive intercounty tournament for footballers over the age of 40.

The 30 strong squad of past players and gaelic enthusiasts are the first team to represent the county in the Masters Championship since 2006, and have been training hard for the past number of weeks in anticipation of the first round test against Antrim, which took place on Friday 22nd July in the neutral grounds of Killyclogher GAA club in Tyrone.

Speaking about the sponsorship, Liam Curley, Site Director said; “At Abbott, we’re committed to helping people live fuller, healthier lives. We are delighted to support this initiative which allows gaelic players to continue to live full and healthy lives through the power of sport, and we wish the Donegal squad the very best of luck.”

Speaking about the sponsorship, Charlie Gallagher, Treasurer of the Donegal Gaelic Masters Association said; “We would like to thank Abbott for their support of the Donegal Team this year. The championship is a great way for all of us to continue to enjoy the sport we love at a competitive level. We have put a huge amount of work into preparing for the championship this year, so hopefully that will serve us well.”
