RAPHOE NOTES

Raphoe Family Resource Centre:

Stress Control Workshops

Following on from the previous successful workshops hosted by the Family Resource Centre in September and October of last year we are gauging interest in further workshops this coming September. If you missed the workshops last time then here’s your opportunity. Donegal Mind Wellness Project will again facilitate the workshops over 6 weeks. We all live in stressful times and situations. Recognising and understanding stress and its triggers and how it can impact on our lives is key to building resilience and strengthening our ability to cope. The workshops aim to help you manage your stress at home and in the workplace and will be of benefit to you personally as well as assisting you in supporting others. The workshops are free of charge. You won’t be obliged to speak, just to listen, learn and practice. If interested please let us know by phone/text/email/private message. Tel 074-9145796; Tel/text 087-3641503 or visit our Facebook page.

Understanding Dementia Workshop

In the past 2 years well attended Understanding Dementia Workshops have taken place in the Lagan Community Health Forum area of Raphoe, St.Johnston, Manor, Newtown and Burt and now there is an opportunity for another workshop within the area. The workshop runs from 9.30-4pm and looks at common behavioural problems, common reactions by carers and care workers, toxic attachment, understanding the person with dementia and your own reactions, understanding the physical changes in the brain, communicating with people with dementia and skills and strategies for dealing with difficult behaviours. If you would be interested in attending another workshop please contact Raphoe Family Resource Centre on 074-9145796/087-3641503.

50-50 Bonus Ball

The winner of our weekly 50 / 50 Bonus Ball was Susie Mangan. Winning number was number 6.
To enter the next Bonus Ball Draw please call into the Family Resource Centre in The Volt House before Saturday of each week. Good luck!

Seniors Alert Scheme

The objective of the Seniors Alert Scheme is to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities through the provision of personal monitored alarms to enable older persons of limited means to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.
Funding is available under the scheme towards the purchase of equipment by a registered organisation i.e. personal alarm and/or pendant. The associated monitoring and service charges must be paid by the participant.

A person will be eligible if he or she is:

• Aged 65 years or older; and
• Of limited means or resources; and
• Living alone, living with another person who meets the eligibility criteria; and
• Resides within geographical area of the relevant registered organisation; and
• Able to benefit from the equipment supplied; and
• Are prepared to maintain contact with the registered organisation.
If you or anyone you know are eligible for the scheme please do not hesitate to contact Laura at Raphoe Family Resource Centre on (074)9145796 or 0873641503 or alternatively call into our office located on the second floor of The Volt House, Raphoe.

Raphoe Boxing Club

Everyone at Raphoe Boxing Club would like to extend best wishes for a speedy recovery to local man, the popular Emmett Kelly who is recovering in hospital after a workplace accident. Get well soon Emmett from all at the local Boxing Club!

Best wishes Chloe, you deserve a medal and we are all behind you!

Raphoe Friday Club

The Friday Club meets every Friday morning in the Volt House Hall from 10.30am-12.30. We would like more in our community to come along and be a part of the Group. There will be events organised over the summer so come along and join in the craic! Refreshments are also provided. Thanks

Harriet Kilpatrick would like to take the opportunity to offer sincere thanks on behalf of Sammy Kilpatrick, who ran from Mizen to Malin Head to raise funds for the Good and New Cancer Bus, to all those who supported Sammy’s efforts over the 6 days of his 400 mile run. Sammy completed the journey around 7.00pm on Sunday 17th July when a huge crowd gathered to cheer him on. The Good and New Cancer Bus was also there. What a great achievement and well done Sammy from everyone. Sammy and Harriet would like to thank Raphoe Hardware, Coyle’s Centra Raphoe, and Raphoe Marquee Hire for sponsorship. Thanks also to everyone who took sponsor sheets and to all those who gave money towards such a good cause. At the moment we have approximately €5,500 with money still coming in so a big thank you to everyone who made this possible. Sponsorship is still open until 17th August 2016 if anyone still wants to sponsor. Give me a call on 087-7912486. Thank you-Harriet Kilpatrick.
