Council hopeful timing of roadworks will reduce traffic delays

Donegal County Council is hoping the timing of vital roadworks on one of Letterkenny’s main road arteries will cut down on traffic build-up.

There were considerable delays last night as Bank Holiday traffic built-up as the roadworks started on the N56 between the Pramerica Roundabout and the Mountaintop.

However it is expected the majority of this traffic coincided with Bank Holiday traffic from Northern Ireland.

The council are hopeful that much of the traffic will be reduced during the roadworks, which will take place from 6pm to 6am over the next two weeks.

The council says the roadworks are vital and they have tried to carry them out outside of peak traffic hours.

The work will involve heavy machinery accessing the roads but with little alternative routes, some delays are inevitable.

The council has thanked people for their patience in advance.
