Suspect In Donegal Break-ins Refused Bail

August 5, 2016

A man has been held on bail by Gardai on suspicion of a number of robberies and trespassing charges in Co Donegal.

Ryan Harkin was arrested by Gardai in Buncrana and appeared at Letterkenny District Court yesterday.

The court was told how Harkin was apprehended after allegedly being caught “rummaging” around a man’s car.

The man managed to hold on to Harkin before Gardai arrived and arrested him.

Harkin, aged 24, of Rockmills Apartments, Strand Road, Derry sought bail after spending a number of days in custody.

However Garda Inspector David Murphy said he was objecting to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and that he feared Harkin would flee the jurisdiction.

After a number of legal submissions by barrister Ciaran Elders, instructed by solicitor David Henry, Judge Alan Mitchell refused bail.

Harkin is to appear at Harristown District Court today.

Judge Mitchell was told that the Direction of Public Prosecutions had not given any direction for the case yet.
