On the 3rd of September in Trentaboy, Drumkeen there will be a Barn Dance to raise much needed funds for Pieta House.

Music by Lone Ranger on the night with doors opening at 9pm.

Raffle & prizes for best dancers on the night with admission only €10 for what is going to be a fantastic night. Contact Donna on 086 310 6202 for your tickets.

The dance is for Pieta House, they confirmed that they will be opening a centre and that all money raised from the event will go towards the set-up and costs involved with this centre only so it will be helping local people.

Pieta House are an organisation that helps those that have feelings of depression, suicidal thoughts, those that have self-harmed or attempted suicide. There are trained councillors that will assist people and their families to come through their illness without the use of medication. Therapy is on a one-to-one basis and all services provided by Pieta House are completely free of charge for the patients. Pieta House has been operating for the past 8 years.

“I believe that by raising awareness of Pieta House, people will be encouraged to talk to them and remove the stigma of mental health issues. If someone goes to a doctor with feelings of depression they may be offered medication or institutionalised. Often, if someone goes to a medical institution to deal with their mental health issues, there are feelings of embarrassment involved and they don’t want people to know they are there. In most cases, people will leave without completing their therapy.” said event organiser Donna Holmes to Donegal Daily.

With Pieta House they remain in their own homes and go to therapy sessions at least twice a week with a qualified counsellor – family and friends can get involved with these sessions if a patient prefers.

Tickets will be sold locally but people can pay at the door on the night. The event has been offered great prizes and sponsorship for advertising from loads of local companies and will be publicly naming all companies in the coming weeks to thank them for their support.
