Donegal’s Mark English delivered a brilliant performance to ensure his place in the Olympic 800m semi-final.
The UCD medical student from Letterkenny finished third in heat 6 of the 800m with an excellent time of 1:46:40.

English looked classy and controlled throughout the race and has strengthened claims he is a genuine medal contender in his first ever Olympics.
English, who won Silver at the European Indoor Championship, competed in a top-class field this afternoon, but never looked out of place at any stage.
He’s through to the Olympic 800m semi-final much to delight of everybody in Donegal and Ireland.
Olympic Team manager Patsy McGonagle will also be delighted to see Mark now just one run away from reaching an Olympic final.
