Message In A Bottle Sparks Mystery In West Donegal

It’s a message in a bottle that has sparked a mystery in West Donegal.

In May, schoolchildren at the Rancocas Friends School in Westampton, New Jersey, USA put personal messages into bottles and hurled them into the sea.

It’s something students there have done for nearly 30 years, but something remarkable happened this year.

One of the return messages a student received was from Carrickfin after it was found on a beach by a Donegal woman.

School headmistress Nora Dunfee said that Margaret Gillespie of Donegal, Ireland wrote in her return letter that she found the bottle on July 27.

But a search for Margaret is proving to be as much a mystery as the bottle which traveled thousands of miles in a few short weeks.

Locals in and around Carrickfin have so far failed to find the woman who launched the bottle into the sea, despite a checklist of all Gillespies in the area.

Now we’re issuing our own SOS to find the real Margaret Gillespie who first spare the interest in this touching story.

If you are Margaret Gillespie who found the bottle with the note in the sea off Carrickfin, please email us on info@donegaldaily.com. We’d love to tell your story.
