A family had a lucky escape when a car veered off the road and smashed into a hedge and a fence at Bluebanks yesterday.

The area, which is on the main Kilmacrennan to Letterkenny Road, is regarded as an accident blackspot by locals.

Locals told Donegal Daily that numerous cars and lorries have gone off the road in recent months.

The motorist was travelling from Kilmacrennan towards Letterkenny when he lost control of the car and veered across the road smashing through the garden fence before eventually landing in the front garden.

Thankfully nobody was hurt.

However locals say that some traffic calming measures need to be introduced before someone is seriously injured.
