Streets to be lined with coins next week for Donegal Hospice

Last year, a very brave lady called Kathleen Ruddy was diagnosed with brain cancer. Eight months later, she passed away, but not before leaving a lasting mark on all who experience palliative care.

Before her passing, she said; “palliative care is not the end of anything… it is the beginning of a different way of living”. She also stressed how unbelievably supportive the staff at Donegal Hospice were during her stay there.

This Monday, the streets of Letterkenny will be lined with coins for the fundraising initiative organised by Kathleen’s family, ‘Kathleen’s Causeway of Coins’.

They will line the 3km route from Kathleen’s home in Crievesmith Park, all the way to Donegal Hospice.

They have already raised a staggering €58,000!

It all kicks off on Monday at 10am with a Coffee Morning and Live Music in Crievesmith Park, where they will launch the beginning of their 3km journey to the Donegal Hospice.

Then from 12 noon, they will begin the journey from Crievesmith Park to the Donegal Hospice, marking the route with coins.

On Wednesday, they will mark what would have been Kathleen’s 59th birthday.

They expect to arrive at Donegal Hospice on Friday.

“There are around 3000 meters on this journey so if any individual, or workplace or family would like to donate a meter – that works out at €80. You can donate a half meter at €40. But we welcome any amount of money – even just a €2 coin to add to the route – remember that little by little, a little becomes a lot.”

You can donate to this fantastic cause by visiting causewayofcoins.com or by meeting them along the route!
