A Dublin GAA player who was given a red card for striking out at Donegal full-back Neil McGee has had his ban overturned following an appeal.

Eoghan O’Gara was introduced as a late substitute during Dublin’s All-Ireland quarter-final win over Donegal a fortnight ago.

However, the full-forward was only on the pitch a matter of minutes when he became involved in an altercation with McGee.

The umpire signalled to the referee to inform them that an incident had occurred between the pair.

O’Gara was then given a red card, and video replays showed him striking McGee in the stomach with a closed fist – although the contact was minimal.

Dublin GAA chiefs appealed the decision and last night the ban was quashed which allows him to play for Dublin next weekend.

Jim Gavin’s side face Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park.
