Maghery Band have been crowned All-Ireland champions at the Fleadh Cheoil at Ennis, Co Clare this afternoon.

Maghery have now won back-to-back All-Ireland titles which has cemented their status as the best marching band in Ireland.

A massive crowd has descended on Ennis for the annual Fleadh Cheoil celebrations, with hundreds from Donegal making the trip south.

The result sparked joyous scenes amongst Maghery band members and supporters when the announcement was made in wet and miserable conditions earlier this afternoon.

Martina Boyle Diver, who has two daughters in the Maghery Band has said it’s an incredible achievement to win back-to-back All-Ireland titles.

She told Donegal Daily, “It’s an incredible achievement and it’s rich reward for all the efforts the band have made all year.

“So much work goes into, and it’s a great testament to everyone who has sacrificed their time to dedicate themselves to the band.

“It’s a fantastic achievement to win an All-Ireland, but to win two in-a-row is brilliant.

“The instructors deserve a special mention, drill instructor Anne-Marie O’Donnell, music instructor Karl Doherty and drumming instructor Anthony Houston for all their amazing efforts.”

Well done to Maghery, who we’re sure will enjoy the celebrations tonight, not only in Ennis, but also in with their homecoming tomorrow evening.
