Dolmio the household food giant, have surveyed over 700 people to see what our technology at the dinner table habits are.

Over 70% of arguments at the dinner table come from technology the survey has revealed.

Technology is connecting people all over the world but it seems this new survey has shown that it can also drive the people closest to us apart.

The survey has shown that 38% of parents have failed in banning technology devices at mealtimes.

John Sharry, CEO Parents Plus Charity and Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the UCD School of Psychology, shared his top tips for how families can protect quality meal times.

He advises parents to explain to children that meal times are important and encourage them to relax and chat.

Mr Sharry commented: “We use technology to connect with each other more than ever before – but sometimes all this online connection can lead to disconnection in real life.

“Especially when it interrupts communication during the family meal as this research highlights. The family meal is an important centre point of family life and communication.

“Shared meals with family and friends are one of the best opportunities to bring us closer together.”
