More than 100 soldiers and divers join search for missing swimmer

The Defence Forces have deployed more than 100 troops and divers to search for a missing solider off Bundoran.

The 28 year old is still missing after disappearing while swimming at Tullan Strand on Tuesday evening.

The missing man has been named locally as Gavin Carey, based at Custume Barracks in Athlone, but who is from Mullingar.

He was amongst a group of soldiers who had been swimming near Rougey when some got into trouble.

One other soldier had to receive treatment at the scene.

His partner as well as family and friends have also joined the search.

The Rescue 118 helicopter as well as Bundoran and Killybegs lifeboat are also involve din the search which is expected to widen today.

Mr Carey had been based at Finner Camp for a number of days where he was undertaking training exercises.
