Fantastic Causeway of Coins raises a staggering €92,000 for Donegal Hospice

CHARITY: The fantastic Causeway of Coins initiative has raised a quite staggering €92,000 for the Donegal Hospice.

The Donegal Hospice has done incredible work over the years for those requiring palliative care, and the care they gave the late Kathleen Ruddy last year, was the spark that created this amazing charity fundraiser.

Kathleen Ruddy was diagnosed with brain cancer. Eight months later, she sadly passed away, but not before leaving a lasting mark on all who experience palliative care.

Before her passing, she said; “Palliative care is not the end of anything, it is the beginning of a different way of living”.

The remarkably brave Kathleen also stressed how unbelievably supportive the staff at Donegal Hospice were during her stay there.

On Monday, the streets of Letterkenny were lined with coins for the start of the fundraising initiative organized by Kathleen’s family, which was aptly named ‘Kathleen’s Causeway of Coins’.

They lined the 3km route from Kathleen’s home in Crievesmith Park, all the way to Donegal Hospice, where all the cash was totalled tonight.

The final amount is over €92,000, what a fantastic amount for an incredible organisation.

Well done to everybody involved, and to Kathleen’s family for organizing the initiative.
