GAA: An early goal from Cathal Gallagher proved to be the decisive score in an entertaining Donegal SFC clash between Dungloe and Glenswilly.
Michael Canning’s side were boosted by the return of Donegal star Neil Gallagher.
He scored an early point, and was a very influential figure throughout for the Foxhall outfit.
They made a blistering start, Joe Gibbons and Neil Gallagher notched over early points, before the big breakthrough.
Caolan Kelly won possession and played a neat one-two with Gary McFadden, they released Cathal Gallagher through on goal.
Gallagher expertly dispatched his effort past Danny Rodgers, and it gave Glenswilly a dream start.
Dungloe played their way back into the game, and notched scores through Ryan Greene, Luke Neely and Adam Neely.
Tony Boyle’s side spurned two good goal chances in the first half, Adam Neely wiggled away from his marker, but he couldn’t keep his shot down and he blazed over the bar.
A few minutes later, a great run by Matthew Ward opened up the Glenswilly defence, but he opted to pass to Conor Greene who was then smothered by James Gallagher, when perhaps Ward might have been better to go himself.
As the side trudged towards the dressing at half-time, Glenswilly were four ahead.
Dungloe started the second-half at a ferocious pace and reeled off three great points from Adam Neely, Shaun Sharkey and Conor Greene.
Then Dungloe passed up another major goal chance, Adam Neely was through one-on-one but James Gallageher made a remarkable stop from point blank range.
Conor Greene then attempted to punch the ball into the net, but he hit the post, but incredibly it broke to his brother Ryan Greene, but he took his eye off it and missed an open goal.
Dungloe would be left to rue that miss, they levelled shortly after through a free from Ryan Greene.
Then Glenswilly had Caolan McFadden sent off after appearing to strike Donegal minor star Mark Curran.
Dungloe wasted several good opportunities to go ahead, and Glenswilly punished them.
Gary McFadden was inspirational, and with Michael Murphy missing, he really stepped up to the plate from placed balls.
He scored three brilliant points for Glenswilly to put them four ahead with a few minutes to go.
Adam Neely reduced the deficit to three, when perhaps he could’ve scored, but again he failed to keep his effort low.
Glenswilly held on for a big, big win and it has now completely blown Group A wide open.
The results over the weekend – now incredibly leaves all four teams in Group A on two points each.
