A body has been found during the search for a soldier missing off the coast of Co Donegal.

Gavin Carey, from Mullingar, went missing while swimming at Tullan Strand near Bundoran on Tuesday evening last.

Hundreds of soldiers and diving personnel took part in the search for the missing soldier who was at Finner Camp on training exercises.

Friends and family of Mr Carey had come up form the midlands to help in the search for the missing 28 year old.

And early this afternoon there was some sense of relief when a body was taken form the water.

A formal identification has yet to take place but local sources say it is that of the missing solider.

The coastguard and other agencies have offered their sympathies to Gavin’s family.
