The senior football teams were free last weekend with both teams returning to action this weekend with the Junior A and B Championships taking place.

On Monday evening our young ladies minor team made the journey to An Clochán Liath to take on Dungloe in the Ladies Minor Football Championship quarter final. Despite their best efforts the girls lost out to a stronger Rosses side. Also in ladies football our senior ladies welcomed Milford ladies to take part in a friendly game last Monday evening. The highly competitive and enjoyable game was part of the ‘Mothers & Others’ initiative.

Club merchandise, which includes training tops, track-suits, jerseys, hats etc. can be purchased in Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure.

Congratulations to club member Paul Walker who scooped the Letterkenny Gaels Lotto jackpot last week. This weeks lotto numbers were 11, 16, 24 & 26. There was no jackpot winner. Ciaran Thompson, Glebe matched three and won €50.

Our Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday 11th September at Pairc na nGael. In conjunction with the Fun Day we are running a Poster Competition for U-6, U-10 and U-14 years. The theme of the poster is ‘Gaeil Leitir Ceanainn-20 bliain ag fás’ because this year we celebrate twenty years of Letterkenny Gaels. Posters to be on A4 paper, name and age and address on the BACK of the poster.

Entries to be brought to the Clubhouse on the Family Fun Day. Entry fee of €1. Winning posters will be printed, framed and put up in the clubhouse. Prizes for each age category. Please see Club Facebook for more details.

The U-12 hurlers continued their winning spree last Thursday evening with a decisive win against Setanta in Killygordan. This Thursday they have a home game against Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon.

The U-8 and U-10 hurlers took part in a blitz at The Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence in Convoy on Sunday past. The opposition on the day were Carndonagh, Mac Cumhaills, St. Eunans, Buncrana and Setanta. Both Letterkenny Gaels teams played exceptionally well winning most of their matches. It was great to see U-14 player Alex Wylde assisting with the U-10 team.

A future coach/manger in the making. A huge thank you to all the players for their great performances, to the coaches for their dedication to their teams and to parents for their support on the day.utdoor Hurling training for U-6, U-8 & U-10 continues every Thursday evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Hurls and helmets provided. New players welcome.

U-12 to U-18 hurling continues every Tuesday evening from 6.30pm – 7.30pm.

Letterkenny Gaels camogie took part in its first ever Come Hurl with Me blitz at the weekend. This is the culmination of 6 weeks training for adults and girls in a non competitive fun environment. Congratulations to U8 & U10 girls and boys and adult players Mary Brennan, Bridget Brennan, Terezena Ellis, Una Friel, Maura Ui Baoill, Katrina Patton, James Brennan, Eunan Quinn & Carol Porter (Carndonagh with daughter Lucy).

Coach Ann Marie Gibbons tutored the programme and the blitz today was very enjoyable and hopefully the first of many. This is a fun way of learning basic skills and of playing with your child at home – our adult players are now intending to continue playing at Pairc na Gaeil with a monthly session planned for the future. Any one interested please contact Ann Marie 086 173 1886 for information.

Our U-8 footballers hosted a very successful blitz last Saturday in the sunshine at Pairc na nGael. Three visiting clubs fielded two teams each to produce a feast of football that entertained the watching crowd with the host club making up the quartet.

The U-8 teams from St Eunans, Glenswilly and Sean McCumhaills travelled to Pairc na nGael to participate in this football Go Games blitz. Each club fielded two teams with a great mix of boys and girls taking part. All teams put some great football skills on display and played the games in a fun and entertaining atmosphere. The coaches, parents, watching crowd and the players were all welcomed into the Gaels clubroom for tea, coffee and refreshments after the games were complete.

The underage football training continues every Sunday from 11am -12noon for U-6s, U-8s and U-10s age groups. If Sunday morning doesn’t suit, the club also provides an additional training session for the U-8s and U-10s age groups on Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8 pm. To enquire about the underage football training, Parents should contact John McDermott (086) 8561768 (under 6s), Brian Sweeney (087) 2282386 (under 8s), David O’Callaghan (086) 769 0305 (under 10’s) and Donal Murphy (087) 6858546 (Under 12’s) or come along any Sunday or Wednesday.
