GARTAN ADVENTURE RACE: Gartan outdoor education centre, in association with Kilmacrennan sports facility development fund are hosting an adventure race based solely around the Gartan area.

This will be the second year of the event, It takes place on the 17th of September and will be consist of a 6.9k run, 1k kayak, 21.3k cycle, 5.3k trail run and a 11.7k cycle for a total distance of 46.2k.

Sean McCrudden from Gartan outdoor centre says he hopes to build on the success of last year’s event.

“This event is a great way to showcase what we have to offer here at the centre. At last years event, we had both the experienced racer and novices attempting their first ever race. All competitors completed the course and the feedback was very positive.

“This year we have included a shorter course(30k) for those who want to give an adventure racing a go, but don’t feel they could complete the full course”

Entries are 45€ for the full course and €35 of the shorter course and 80€ per team(full course only).

The first 100 entrants will receive a t-shirt. There will be post race refreshments at the centre.

Sean added, “There will be plenty of backup on the day and competitors will never be more than 6km distance from the centre,  making it an ideal course for those new to the sport.

With less than 3 weeks to go there is still plenty of time to sharpen up your fitness in time for the event.”

All funds raised will go towards developing new much needed sports facilities in the Kilmacrennan area.

Raymond Shields from the Kilmacrennan development committee told Donegal Daily, “We are delighted to be involved with this event again this year and it promises to be another fantastic event. Our fundraising effort is going well and with our development site secured and planning application logded, we are well on the way to realising our goal.

“Which include plans for a full size 4G pitch, basketball and tennis courts. As well as a running/walking track and changing facilities and children play area”

Places are limited and are filling up fast. Call the centre to book your place on 074-9137032 by credit card or call into the centre.

The closing date for applications is the 15th of September at 6pm.
