Sinn Féin Councillor John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh has today welcomed the announcement that funding of over €129,000 for road improvements, capital works and other services has been allocated for Donegal’s offshore Islands.

The funding, which is being provided by both Donegal County Council and An Roinn, will include upgrades to county roads on Arranmore and Tory Islands as well enhanced recycling facilities on Tory Island.

Cllr Ó Fearraigh said; “I very much welcome today’s announcement that over €129,000 has been allocated to the islands, with An Roinn providing €96,800 of this total funding.”

“This money will be used to provide much needed infrastructural improvements to the L9033 road on Arranmore and the L9013 county road on Tory Island.”

“Also included as part of this allocation are plans to provide enhanced recycling facilities and services for residents on Tory Island.”

“This is a fantastic result for these island communities, and it demonstrates what can be achieved when different groups work together such as has been demonstrated by the islands committee and Donegal County Council.”
