DD local: Afterschool programme starts in Raphoe

Afterschool Programme Registration

Registration for the Family Resource Centre’s Afterschool Programme will take place from 3-6pm on Tuesday 6th September with the Programme commencing on the following Tuesday 13th September. There is a registration fee of €7.00 per child for insurance purposes. We look forward to welcoming back all our regulars and of course new members are most welcome.

Women’s Group

The Women’s Group meets on a fortnightly basis and it take place on Mondays from 8pm here in the Family Resource Centre. The Women’s Group will start back on Monday 19th September 2016. The group has been together for many years. We chat; we help each other out, make crafts, have cooking demonstrations, plan activities for International Women’s Day and have many social outings throughout the year. If you would like to be a part of this group, please don’t hesitate to come along. We are really interested in your ideas and the first meeting is the perfect evening to join the group. Something Special Group

The Something Special Support Group have had a fantastic Summer, enjoying family days out, thank you to everyone who has supported the group throughout the year in their fundraising efforts to make all these outings possible. The group’s next meeting is taking place on Tuesday 13th September. The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 8pm. If you are a parent/guardian of a child with delayed communication or learning skills or Autism Spectrum Disorder, you will find support, advice and information by attending this support group. 50-50 Bonus Ball

The winner of this week’s Bonus Ball was Pamela Gibson. Winning number was 17.

Raphoe Boxing Club

The Raphoe Boxing Club is now back in full swing after the summer break and head coach Gary McCullagh and his team conduct training sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights from 7pm to 9pm for all boxers from 11 years upwards. Boys, girls and all new and former members are very welcome along. The junior boxers will resume training on Monday 12th September at 6pm. All boys and girls welcome.
Club boxers Dennis Lafferty, Orin McDermott and Coach Gerard Keavney will travel to Philadelphia on 2nd November to represent a North West Selection at a major tournament at the Clarion Hotel in Essington PA. All three will spend six days in the USA and everyone at the Raphoe Club extends best wishes for every success to Dennis, Orin and Gerard. Good Luck boys.

Raphoe Friday Club

The Friday Club meets every Friday morning in the Volt House Hall from 10.30am-12.30. We would like more in our community to come along and be a part of the Group. There will be events organised over the summer so come along and join in the craic! Refreshments are also provided. Transport is available on Friday mornings and if you require this please phone 0749145462 and arrange.

Raphoe Tidy Towns will have vacancies for 8 General operatives on their new Community Employment Project due to start on 26th September. Raphoe Kurling Club:

Raphoe Kurling Club started back on Monday 5th September 2016 at 6.45pm and will continue every Monday night at the same time in the Presbyterian Church Hall, Raphoe. New members are welcome.

St. Johnston & Carrigans Community Employment Project:

St. Johnston & Carrigans Community Employment Project is currently recruiting for the following jobs, which are supported by the Department of Social Protection:
1Youth Worker and 1 Centre Receptionist to be based in St. Johnston & Carrigans Family Resource Centre; 1 Youth Worker to be based in Newtowncunningham Youth Centre. Workers are free to work in other places while on Community Employment. Free training opportunities available within budgets. Carers Programme

Are you caring for someone? The HSE is offering a free information programme in Letterkenny for individuals who are looking after someone at home commencing September 2016. Book your place now. Sessions included in the Programme are: continence, pressure care / positioning, patient moving and handling, Diabetes, Understanding Dementia, Cardiac First Aid Response training, Stress Management, Safeguarding vulnerable adults, Nutrition, practical issues in bereavement.
