Do you know anyone who deserves to be crowned Irish Person of the Year?

RTÉ’s Sinead Kennedy and Alanah Miley (11) and Johnny Harkin (10) lent a helping hand today to remind the nation that the clock is ticking towards the nomination deadline for the People of the Year Awards 2016. We have a little over a week before the nominations close.

The final date for submitting nominations is Monday, 12th September – the last chance for the public to nominate Ireland’s deserving heroes for this year’s Awards.

Sinead, Alanah and Johnny are encouraging the country to get their nominations submitted on time for the everyday heroes living in their local communities. Whether they are unsung heroes or household names, the People of the Year Awards celebrates those people who have done extraordinary things and made a real difference in people’s lives. The winners, who are all nominated by the Irish public, are finalised by a panel of adjudicators. Categories include International Person of the Year, Young Person of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Sports Person of the Year, with other Awards presented for acts of bravery or personal sacrifice, achievements in areas such as the arts, culture or sciences or lifelong contributions to Irish society.

Encouraging people to get their nominations in, Sinead Kennedy said, “The People of the Year Awards are a fantastic celebration of the extraordinary people throughout Ireland who go that extra mile for others every day. It is so important that we recognise them and the People of the Year Awards, which is broadcast live on RTÉ One, is a really wonderful way of doing this.”

“It’s the annual opportunity for the Irish people to say thank you to some very special people. I love attending the Awards night every year and am delighted to support it once more in 2016.”

It is quick and easy to nominate someone for a People of the Year Award and there are a number of ways to put someone forward:

  • Online at www.peopleoftheyear.com
  • By email to peopleoftheyear@rehab.ie
  • Through the nominations app on www.facebook.com/PeopleOfTheYearAwards.
  • By post to People of the Year Awards, Roslyn Park, Sandymount Dublin 4.

Entries will be accepted until midnight on Monday, 12th September. Now in its 42nd year, the People of the Year Awards, Ireland’s premier award ceremony will be broadcast live from Dublin’s Citywest Hotel on RTÉ One on Saturday, 3rd December.
