The McGranaghan’s had a very successful evening on Tuesday in the Abbey Village 5K in Kilmacrennan. Gerard’s time of 18.03 gave him 2nd place, just 6 seconds behind Limerick AC’s visiting athlete, John McCallion. Monica’s fine form continued and she took the senior women’s prize in a time of 19.15. Monica finished 4th overall. Another Letterkenny AC runner in excellent form is Noreen Scanlan and her time of 19.39 gave her 2nd place in the women’s race.

Barry Mackey was in action again and he continued his impressive success rate in the M50 category. Barry was the first M50 finisher in 20.19. Marian Kerr has also had a highly successful summer and she was the first W40 finisher in 22.34. Philip Connolly came home in 23.49 and Danny Sharkey in 24.11.

Ivan Toner made a highly successful return to competitive action on Friday evening with a 2nd place finish in the Sean MacCumhall’s 5K in Ballybofey. Ivan’s time was 16.23, which was just a few seconds behind race winner, Dermot McElchar of Finn Valley. Mrs Jane Toner gave an early indication that she will be as proficient a race winner as she had been as Miss Jane McGinley. Jane was winner of the women’s race, and 8th overall, in a time of 20.05, making it a good week for 2 of LAC’s married couples.

Danny Mooney chalked up yet another victory on Sunday when he led a field of over 100 runners in the Charles McGuinness 5K in Glenties. His time of 17.28 saw him finish with almost half a minute to spare over his nearest challenger, Zachary McGowan of City of Derry Spartans. Gwyn Yemm, who continues to show massive improvements, ran 18.52. This represented a PB for Gwyn. Barry Mackey ran his second race of the week, which is usual for the prolific racer. It was another podium finish, with Barry’s time of 20.12 giving him 2nd place in the M50 category. Niamh McDaid had a good run and came home in 22.24.

Several Letterkenny AC runners were among the 1620 runners who completed Sunday’s Waterside Half Marathon in Derry. Darren Beecroft was the first of the LAC contingent to cross the line. He finished in 1.33.51. Shortly behind Darren was Adrian Callaghan in a time of 1.34.40, with Stevie Shiels clocking 1.42.16. Eilis McClafferty came home in 1.50.12 and Noel Lynch showed he has recovered from the serious injury he suffered in last year’s Lifford/Strabane Half Marathon by finishing in 1.50.21. Margaret Shields’ time was 1.58.02. The race winner was Freddie Sittuk, of Raheny Shamrocks, whose time was 1.07.36.

All at Letterkenny AC wish to offer congratulations to club members Sinead Peoples and Ben George, who recently became engaged.
