Two people have been hospitalised after a raid on a filling station in Inishowen.

Three men wearing masks and using retractable battons left staff at Bradley’s Topaz Filling station in Fahan terrified.

The gang approached three members of the Bradley family as they were locking up the shop for the evening last night at 9pm.

The gang, wearing hooded tops, scarves and blue surgical gloves, forced the owners back into the store.

In the process they smashed a window which caused injury to Mrs Bradley.

The gang quickly got an unspecified amount of property before escaping in what is believed to be a silver or grey Nissan Almera car which was driven towards the Bridgend direction.

As the gang escaped their car struck a bin, which in turn struck Mr Bradley causing him an injury.

Both Mr and Mrs Bradley were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital but thankfully their injuries are not understood to be serious.

Garda Inspector David Murphy told Donegal that this must have been a terrifying incident for the three members of the family.

“There is no question that this was a terrifying ordeal for the members of the Bradley family who are well-known and highly-respected in the area.

“There is the possibility that this car could have been lying in wait for the owners to close the premises so we would appeal to anybody who may have witnessed this car to contact us,” he said.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Bridgend Garda station on 0749368194, Buncrana Garda station on 0749320540 or the Garda confidential telephone line on 1800 666111.
