GAA News: Gaeil Fhánada to face Naomh Bríd this Sunday

written by Elaine McCallig September 7, 2016

Seniors & Reserves

AllSportStore.com League Division 3  Round 18

Gaeil Fhánada Seniors & Reserves v Naomh Bríd in Tria Locha this Sunday.

Pairc Uí Shiail 1.30p.m. & 3:00p.m. Referees: James McGinley (Reserves) George Montgomery(Seniors).

Come out and give our boys the encouragement and support they deserve for all important League games.

Ádh mór buachaillí.

Championship

Reserve game called off as Carndonagh were unable to field.

Gaeil Fhánada 3:13 v Carndonagh 2:07

Our Seniors powered past Carndonagh but ultimately fall short. A superb second half performance from our Seniors ensured a comfortable victory against a dogged Carndonagh side. Results elsewhere mean we are safe in Intermediate for another year but won’t make the knockout stages. County minor Eoghan Carr contributed with 3 goals while there was a spread of scores across the rest of the team in what was an impressive performance.

The concession of two very soft goals may be a cause of concern and is something the Gaels can focus on going forward.  With results going against us it means we exit the championship without reaching the quarter finals for the first time in 4 years. However it was another positive performance from the Gaels and scoring 3-13 is always a sign of intent. Fanad can now focus on the league in an aim to guarantee Division 3 football for 2017. Fanad can also take heart with the number of goalscoring chances they created, 9 over the hour in what was a fine display of counter attacking play.

Foireann Gaeil Fhánada: Brendan Friel, Kevin McGonigle, Paddy Heraghty, Frank Sweeney, Odhran Shiels, Cathal Martin, Ryan McGonigle (0-2), Shaun McElwaine (0-1), Michael Sweeney (0-1), Oisin Shiels, Seami Nanny Friel (0-3), Brian McVeigh (0-2), Eoghan Carr (3-0), Seimi Coshia Friel (0-1), Niall Carr (0-3). Subs: Conor McGonigle for Kevin McGonigle, Paul Coyle for Cathal Martin, Heraghty for Odhran Shiels.

Senior Ladies

Gleann tSúilí 3:07 Gaeil Fhánada 3:05.

Our Senior Ladies were narrowly defeated by Glenswilly. The senior ladies suffered defeat by two points in Glenswilly in their final League game of the season. On reflection, it will be a game in which the ladies will rue missed opportunities as their wide count was considerably higher than the oppositions at the end. Glenswilly will now go forward to play Naomh Mhuire in the league final while the attention of the Fanad management will turn to the Shield Final, also against Naomh Mhuire.

Foireann: Rosheen Mc Ginley, Eimear Mc Conigley, Orla Sweeney, Róisín Carr, Niamh Mc Devitt, Maggie Friel, Maríosa Friel, Aoife Mc Devitt, Rachel Sweeney (0:01), Orlaigh Carr, Hannah Shiels (0:02), Shauna Howe, Lauren Carr, Michelle Doherty (3:02), Caoimhe Walsh. Deirdre Friel for Aoife Mc Devitt.

Minor boys make it three from three with win over Termon

Gaeil Fhánada 0:18 v An Tearmainn 1:11

Our minors completed their championship group with a good victory over Termon at the Burn Road this evening. The lads overcame a tough challenge away to Malin last week and this victory along with an earlier one against Letterkenny Gaels means they topped their group with maximum points.

Foireann: Oran Blaney, Bernard Martin, James Gallagher, Matthew Gallagher, Fergus Friel, Odhrán Shiels, Dan Little, Michael Shiels, Oisín Mc Fadden (0:01), Bernard Mc Gettigan (0:02) Paddy Carr (0:01) Sean Little (0:02) Darren Mc Elwaine, Eoghan Carr (0:12) Niall Shiels. James Kerr for J Gallagher, Shaun Kerr for N Shiels, Johnny Gallagher for M Shiels, Eoin Mc Gonigle.

U16s through to County Final!!

Gaeil Fhánada 2:14 v Naomh Muire 1:07.

Good news from Convoy as our U16s cruised to the all County League Division 2 final. Report on facebook page. The U16 team secured their place in the Division 2 County League Final last Sunday evening after victory over Naomh Mhuire in the semi-final in Convoy.

We wish them well against St. Nauls next weekend and hope that as many supporters as possible will turn out to give the lads the support they deserve. Ádh mór a ghasúraí!

Foireann Eoin Mc Gonigle, James Sweeney, Michael Sweeney, Shaun Sweeney, James Howe, Darren Mc Elwaine (0:01), Johnny Gallagher, Fergus Friel (1:01), Ciarán Coyle, Shaun Kerr (0:01), John Friel (1:05), Mark Mc Ateer (0:04), Matthew Gallagher (0:02), Eoghan Mc Grenaghan. Odhrán Duffy for J. Howe, Liam Sweeney for S. Kerr, Ciarán Mc Devitt for E. Mc Grenaghan, Casey Poole for C. Coyle, James Mc Collum for J. Sweeney, Eoghan Shiels

U13 boys

Gaeil Fhanada 1-9 – 0-11 St.Michaels

Our U13 boys made it two wins from two after a one point victory over a determined St.Michaels team yesterday evening. The game was played 13 a side with rolling substitutes to ensure game time for all our players. As we said earlier in the week, this panel is made up mainly of our U12 team but they are a very hard working and honest group of players who show everything that is good about the game.

Foireann: Brian Gallagher, Aaron McConigley, Ciaran Sweeney, Hugh Rodgers, Conor McGarvey, Callum McAteer, Liam McGrenaghan, Conor Heraghty,  Ronan McFadden, Cain Sweeney, Darren McAteer, Brandon Friel, Shaun Carr, Patrick Gallagher, Caolan Gibbons, Michael Gibbons, Shaun McDevitt, Cain Friel.

Bord na nÓg Parish League

Final of Gaeil Fhánada’s Bord na nÓg- organised Parish League, was held last Thursday September 1 st 2016. Congratulations and very well done to all those who organised and helped and especially to all the children who participated and enjoyed.

Comhghairdeas

A huge congratulations to our club referee Siobhan Coyle refereed the Senior ladies Championship final between Glenfin and Moville last Sunday in Naomh Padraig, Muff. This was a fantastic honour for Siobhan and we wish her the best of luck in the future!
