St Johnston social housing project gets green light

A construction project worth €1M has been approved for St Johnston.

The move has been welcomed by Minister of State Joe McHugh.

“I have received confirmation today that six houses under Local Authority Housing Construction Programme have received budget approval, located in Cois Abhainn,St. Johnston.

“The Minister for Housing Planning and Local Government Simon Coveney TD has informed me that Stage 1 Approval will now be issuing, with the budget approval for this project totalling €954,722.

Speaking following news of the announcement, Fine Gael Councillor Martin Marley, said There is no doubt that housing shortages is an issue in this County and I am pleased to hear news of this announcement, and I believe this will make a positive difference in the St. Johnston area.”

Minister McHugh added “Housing shortages are a real and serious concern nationwide, and I am glad to see the Government is following through on commitments made regarding increasing the number of houses being built.

“I also had a meeting yesterday to discuss housing demand in other parts of the County and I will continue working closely with Donegal County Council and my Council colleagues to progress here.”
