Pearse Doherty says a commitment given to him by Minister Noonan that he will publish the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report on the sale of the NAMA Northern loan book known as Project Eagle before the return of the Dáil at the end of this month is not good enough.
Deputy Doherty said given the explosive revelations in the BBC Spotlight programme the Minister must act swiftly and publish the report.
He also called for all transactions involving NAMA to be suspended and the state’s assets to be protected.
Speaking after the exchange in the Dáil last night Teachta Doherty said “Given the explosive revelations in last night’s BBC Spotlight programme it is very important that the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report is published as soon as possible. Minister Noonan’s commitment to publish it before the return of the Dáil in three weeks is not good enough.
“Sinn Féin has consistently called for a commission of investigation into the sale of NAMA’s Northern Loan book known as Project Eagle.
“Last night’s BBC Spotlight programme confirmed our suspicions that somebody from inside NAMA has been giving sensitive information about that body to outside interests for a cash return.
“This means that there is a breach within NAMA and I think it is now very important that all transactions involving NAMA are suspended until such a time that an independent commission of investigation is established to look at this issue.
“The state must protect its assets and it is very clear that people are making massive profits at a cost to the taxpayer.
“More urgency and further action is required from Minister Noonan.”
