Mayo enlist help of Jim McGuinness ahead of All-Ireland final

Mayo GAA bosses have enlisted the help of Jim McGuinness ahead of their All-Ireland SFC final with Dublin on Sunday at Croke Park.

McGuinness is the last manager to inflict defeat on Jim Gavin’s Dublin side, defeating them in an epic semi-final in 2014.

Dublin are looking for back-to-back All-Ireland crowns, while Mayo are looking to bring the Sam Maguire cup back to the county for the first time in 65 years.

However, in order to do so, Stephen Rochford has enlisted the help and expertise of McGuinness to nullify the attacking threat of Dublin.

Former Donegal and Mayo player Martin Carney announced the revelation on Matt Cooper’s Today FM show.

While Carney wasn’t exactly sure what McGuinness told the team, he guessed that he wasn’t brought ‘down to talk about forward play’.

“You can’t play Dublin in toe-to-toe from the word go,” Carney told Matt Cooper on the Last Word this evening.

“They will have to have a sweeper system that they brought into place in the Fermanagh game and have added incrementally since then, primarily with Kevin McLoughlin in the role.

“I think they will try that again but they might even have a double sweeper.

“It is interesting, in their last weekend in Limerick they had Jim McGuinness down speaking to them. Now, Jim McGuinness isn’t coming down to talk to them about forward play. It has to be to look at defence.”
