Revenue clampdown as they swoop on illegal fuel users

A major clampdown has been launched in recent days by Customs and Excise officials across Donegal on illegal fuel.

This morning a series of checkpoints have been set up close to the Ballynalecky Crossroads between St Johnston and Raphoe.

Cars are being stopped and their fuel tanks dipped.

Yesterday hundreds of cars were stopped at various locations on the outskirts of Letterkenny including Newmills.

In recent weeks checkpoints have been set up across the Inishowen Peninsula in a bid to catch motorists using ‘red diesel.’

A number of people have already appeared before the courts on charges relating to using the illegal fuel in their cars and vans.
