Thousands of protesters made their way to the capital yesterday from all corners of Ireland to protest the water charges.

Donegal was well represented in the protest with hundreds travelling down to Dublin to take part in the demonstration.

The protest was organised by Right2Water and protesters assembled at Connolly and Heuston Station before making their way to St. Stephen’s Green while shouting ‘no way we won’t pay’ and ‘Enda Kenny not a penny’.

This protest follows the decision to suspend water charges for a period of nine months after Fianna Fail and Fine Gael held negotiations on forming a new government.

Activist Owen Curran explained;  “[the protests] have been the mobilisation of thousands of people that have made this an issue that politicians can’t ignore, and  it has been the visual and active campaign on the ground that has given so many householders the confidence to continue not to pay”.
