Sportstar Deignan left waiting for his bride – thanks to a cyclist!

Professional Donegal cyclist Philip Deignan can thank his own sport for his wife-to-be being late for their big day!

She may be an Olympic cyclist, but Lizzie Armitstead arrived 10 minutes late to her wedding this morning – after her vintage coach got stuck behind a bicycle.

The former Olympic silver medallist put her dope test controversy and medal failure in Rio behind her to marry the Letterkenny man in her home town of Otley, West Yorkshire.

Lizzie, 27, looked radiant in an elegant ivory wedding gown as she arrived at The Bridge United Reformed Church.

The Daily Mail reports that crowds of well wishers gathered in the autumn sunshine outside the Victorian church for the wedding of local Yorkshire lass Lizzie to Philip, 33, who races for Team Sky.

Lizzie wore her brunette locks up for her big day, decorated with a vintage-inspired hair piece.

She was accompanied up the aisle by her flower girls and bridesmaids, who donned full-length dresses in varying shades of green – perhaps a nod to Philip’s Irish roots.

As the couple left the church, crowds outside clapped and cheered as the guests filled the air with confetti.
