My Donegal… with artist Jim Osborne

Jim Osborne is an artist who has a very unique style; he creates his stunning images on steamy windows, encapsulating ethereal light changes in the sky in his stunning illustrations.

He has recently opened his own gallery in Martha’s Courtyard called Drift Inn Art in Dunfanaghy.

Jim is self taught and is part of artist group Cosanglas who work with sculptures during Errigal Arts Festival.

His steamy windows art has been selected by the highly esteemed Agora Gallery in New York.

 

This is Jim’s Donegal…

 

(1) What is your favourite place in Donegal and why?
Glenveagh, the peace and quiet. Also the vastness and colour.

 

(2) If you could change one thing about Donegal what would it be?
The weather!

 

(3) Who is the one person in Donegal that you look up to and why?
Jim Mc Guinness! A great leader and motivator.

 

(4) Daniel O’Donnell or Packie Bonner?
Packie Bonner

 

(5) What has been Donegal’s proudest moment in recent years?
Winning the Sam Maguire

 

(6) What was Donegal’s saddest moment?
Losing our local doctor and pharmacist; in my mind a terrible loss to the community.

 

(7) What is your favourite Donegal-made product?
I can’t pick!

 

(8) Who is Donegal’s greatest ambassador around the world and why?
Enya and Clannad; their music and singing goes without saying! A wonderful family.

 

(9) Who is Donegal’s most successful businessperson in your opinion?
Dennis Sheridan, the quiet man of Kilmacrennan!

 

(10) Who is your favourite Donegal sportsperson of all time?
All of the Donegal GAA team!

 

(11) What is your favourite Donegal restaurant?
Sorry but there’s too many to chose from! They each have their own uniqueness and I love them all.

 

(12) Donegal’s golden eagles or basking sharks?
Golden Eagles!

 

(13) What is your favourite Donegal saying or expression?
“Y’know”

 

(14) What is the biggest challenge facing the people of Donegal today?
Inward investment in our local areas, help towards the small trader who spends their time devoted to each small town and always there to lend a helping hand. They are all under appreciated.

 

(15) What is your favourite Donegal food?
Our seafood!

 

(16) Is there anything that really annoys you about Donegal or its people?
No, but the roads could do with more investment

 

(17) Do you have a favourite local band?
Stray!

 

(18) If you had a million euro to improve something in Donegal what would it be?
Respite care for the careworkers in Donegal – very much needed!

 

(19) What is your favourite thing about creating art?
The freedom and being creative… to be able to think and look outside the box.

 

(20) Is there anything about Donegal that you are very proud of?
The people and the county are very kind and good natured, the county offers so much to the visitor and everyone is so helpful! I would like to thank Donegal Daily for this opportunity to say a little about this fantastic county and its people.
