Do you want to learn how to look after your precious family photographs?

Working with Donegal County Museum, a hands-on photography archiving workshop will be led by Gallery of Photography curators, who will guide you through the fundamentals of preserving your family album.

It goes from caring for your photographs, negatives, and slides, safe storage and display options; digitising & archiving your collection, to options available for restoring & repairing damaged photographs.

The workshop will also discuss the value of preserving our rich photographic heritage using images from the famous Derry photographer James Glass as an example of the importance of this work.

The discussion will also look at the ongoing Photo Album of Ireland project organised in partnership with Donegal County Museum and Gallery of Photography which is researching the diverse cross border history of Ireland through the family album.

What participants need to bring

Your personal photographic collection: photo albums, photographic prints, negatives, slides, digital files. Please bring along photographs that you would like us to scan at high resolution to give you maximum quality to reprint or enlarge. If any of your photographs are damaged, we will be able to show you how to fix them with post production software. All photographs are returned.

The Gallery of Photography is Ireland’s leading photography centre and it is located in Dublin’s cultural and creative quarter, Temple Bar. The Gallery is a not for profit organisation.

Booking is required to Donegal County Museum, High Road, Letterkenny, Co Donegal T 074 9124613 E museum@donegalcoco.ie
