Harps stop the rot and earn excellent point away to Sligo Rovers

FOOTBALL: Finn Harps have ended their dreadful run of form and have secured a crucial point away to Sligo Rovers in their bid to beat the drop.

Sligo missed a penalty in dramatic circumstances, when Rafael Cretaro blazed over in the 90th minute, much to the relief of the Harps players, staff and travelling fans.

Prior to tonight’s clash Harps lost nine games on the trot, so it was imperative they got something from the game.

Harps manager Ollie Horgan will be delighted they have stopped the rot, and have earned what may well be a crucial point, as they extended their lead ahead of Wexford Youths to five points.

In truth, the hosts had the better of the play, but they rarely troubled Richard Brush bar a few minor scares either side of half-time.

While Harps created a couple of decent Harps chances, but when Sligo were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute, it looked like that horrible run was set to continue.

However, the Tubbercurry tornado Rafael Cretaro failed to convert the spot-kick, and ensured that Harps claimed a crucial, crucial point.

Harps have now gone ten games without a win, but a home win against Bray on Friday night may well be enough to secure their Premier Division status for next season.

Final Score: Sligo Rovers 0 Finn Harps 0
