Since 1994, the 5th of October has marked World Teachers’ Day. According to UNESCO, the day marks an appreciation, awareness, and understanding for the vital contributions teachers make to education and development.

Teachers dedicate their lives to giving their pupils the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in whatever path they choose to take.

Here are five quotes which celebrate the profession:

“What is a teacher? I’ll tell you: it isn’t someone who teaches something, but someone who inspires the student to give of her best in order to discover what she already knows.” ― Paulo Coelho, novelist.

“I touch the future. I teach.” — Christa McAuliffe, teacher.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela, politician and philanthropist.

“The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see.” – Alexandra K. Trenfor.

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” — Henry Adams, historian.
