Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes:

Last weekend we were blessed with some magnificent weather at Costa Del Dunfanaghy and we had some scores to match. The big competition of the week was the Brian McGinley Memorial GOY Stroke Competition played on Sunday.

Cornie McMullan must have thought he was in with a good chance of first prize after coming home with a great score of 62 net however he was pipped by Declan Lynch of Strabane by the narrowest of margins. Declan also had a 62 net and managed to take first prize on a BOT.

In the Saturday Open 4BBB, the winners were Pat Bonner and Ml Dunne, narrowly beating Mal Johnson and Nigel Doherty into second.

The Wednesday Open was won by Owen Magee with a great score of 40 points. C McCallion was second with Niall Roarty in third. Phelim McGeady won the gross with 32 gross points.

Junior Golf

The standard of golf in the Senior Boys Section was of the highest quality this week. If it weren’t for a slow start Finn Dalton would have come out on top. He had 24 points on the back nine but this was only good enough for third place.

James Sweeney was second with a great score of 38 points and also won shot of the day when he holed out from 100 yards for a great birdie on the fourteenth.

The winner of the senior boys was Carlos O’Reilly with a tremendous score of 39 points. Carlos played some terrific golf and was thoroughly deserving of his win.

In the Juveniles Section, the winner and one of our most consistent golfers was Michael Dolan who won by two shots from Max Roarty. In the cadets section the winner and one of our newest recruits was Matthew Wilkinson . Matthew has come on in leaps and bounds since he started competition golf a few weeks ago and is definitely one to watch for the future.

Shot of the day went to Caolan McFadden who hit a towering second shot onto the eighteenth leaving his ball 10 feet from the hole.
