Once again, it is a record year with huge demand by recruiters to attend the annual LYIT Careers and Postgraduate Studies Fair– the biggest ever Careers event in Northwest!

The annual Careers and Postgraduate Studies Fair which is hosted by Careers Service, LYIT will take place on Monday 24th October 12 noon – 3pm at the Sports Hall, An Danlann.

The Careers and Postgraduate Studies Fair supports all LYIT students, graduates and adults considering their career options during and after studies.

These options could include graduate employment, self- employment, postgraduate studies, voluntary work and travel. In addition to meeting employers and postgraduate course providers, attendees will be able to avail of advice from the many professional bodies in attendance including education, engineering and accountancy.

The level of interest amongst exhibitors looking to attend the 2016 event has been phenomenal, a sure sign that there is an increasing demand for graduates. Careers being recruited for on the day include App Developers, Project Specialists, Quantity Surveyors, Data Analysts, Nursing, Customer Service Executives, Marketing Specialists and hotel staff.

Commenting on the event, Careers Officer, Catherine Lyster said ‘I am delighted with the range and calibre of recruiters attending the 2016 LYIT Careers and Postgraduate Studies Fair. There has been a marked increase in representation by employers in the Construction sector.

“I would advise students from all years (not just final year students) to come along to the fair and meet with the employers as many of them offer part-time work opportunities and internships’. LYIT President, Paul Hannigan remarked, “this is an extremely important event in the Institute’s calendar, it is a barometer of the emerging health of the economy and the esteem in which our graduates are held”.

Companies will attend from various sectors including IT, Pharmaceutical, Finance, Social Care, Law, and Telecommunications providers. Many companies continue to return each year including Pramerica, Randox, Sita, ZEUS, Enterprise Rent a Car, Bank of Ireland and PWC. In addition, we are delighted to welcome new additions including Aurivo, Lotus Works, Linesight and Version 1.

In addition to graduate employment opportunities, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with a broad range of postgraduate course providers from Ireland and UK with offerings ranging from sports therapy to human rights law!

Those looking to spend time abroad are advised to check out the exciting programmes offered by the JET programme (working in Japan), the Washington-Ireland Programme (summer work in the US Senate) and USIT, which offers worldwide programmes.

The value of having voluntary work experience on one’s CV /personal statement is well acknowledged and for those looking to develop their employability skills, there will be a number of voluntary groups including Donegal Volunteers and Voluntary Services International in attendance offering a wide range of opportunities.

In addition to the main event, we are delighted to offer the following:

CV Clinic – staffed by careers experts, you will have the opportunity to have your CV/personal statement reviewed free of charge, so, if you are looking for part-time work, graduate employment or are applying to a postgraduate course, why not avail of this service?

Careers Seminars – there will be a host of seminars taking place on the day on ever popular careers related topics. Jobs Wall and Videos – Watch out for the Jobs Wall in the main hall which will feature vacancies from companies that are unable to attend. Also, check the plasma screens throughout both our Letterkenny and Killybegs campuses for general information on the Fair and some employer recruitment videos
