The legacy of Paddy the Cope is set to be explored on UTV documentary series Lesser Spotter Journeys this week. The episode will be focused on Templecrone in Dungloe, where presenter Joe Mahon will be meeting local characters to learn about the history and culture of the area.

In the episode airing on Tuesday at 9pm on UTV, Joe’s visit to Upper Templecrone sees him talking to local people to discover the history and quirky facts about the town.

The story of Paddy the Cope features during the presenter’s visit to the parish. The Donegal businessman founded the Templecrone Co-operative Agricultural Society Ltd (The Cope) which supported the community and provided employment for hundreds in the early 1900s.

Joe will be uncovering the difficulties in soapstone mining at Crohy Head, as well as studying the destruction that sand can cause.

He will be also be finding out about the benefits of seaweed oil and helping Maghery hair stylist Brian Roche collect seaweed for his clients’ seaweed baths.

The delights of West Donegal will be captured on film throughout the episode, as Joe travels to the coast to study the impact and benefits of the sea.

The programme could serve as another great boost for the county, highlighting the natural beauty it has to offer and the best of the local communities.
