THE ULSTER SENIOR LEAGUE missed out on the Michael Ward Trophy after a 2-0 defeat to the hosts and the winners, Munster.
In a game that was rearranged to Castletreasure due to the heavy rainfall by the Lee, the USL selection were pipped to the title on the head-to-head meeting this morning with both teams finishing level on six points.
USL manager Peter Moran again rotated his panel for the big game. After winning their opening two games against Leinster and Connacht, the USL went into today’s game hopeful of winning the title for the fourth time.
However, they fell behind in the first half.
A one-nil reversal would still have been good enough for the USL to win the Cup on goal difference, but a penalty in the second half saw Munster double their lead and the USL couldn’t claw their way back into the game.
