Engineering Students at Colaiste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon have achieved major honours in this year’s Regional Finals of the Young Engineering Competition.

Hosted by the Engineering & Technology Teachers’ Association, the regional competition was held in Letterkenny on the 29th of September 2016.

The Engineering Department at Coláiste Cholmcille is no stranger to success with many former students receiving awards at both regional and national level for project work in both the Leaving Certificate Applied Engineering and the  Leaving Certificate Engineering program.

For the first time in the history of the school, success has been achieved at all levels in the competition.

Four students from the one class, Cian Duffy, Martin McManus, Shane Begley and Daire Doyle now go on to represent the region in the National Finals which take place in Gorey, Co. Wexford on the 18th of November.

Mr. John McLoone , Engineering teacher, outlined how very proud he and indeed the wider school community in Coláiste Cholmcille are, of the students and their achievements in what was a tough regional competition this year.

He described his students as hard working, gifted in manual skills, good problem solvers and pupils who showed inventiveness in their wining designs.
