U16 Boys

Red Hugh’s U16 boys exited the championship at the quarter final stage on Sunday. This was always going to be a tough battle for the boys against a strong, physical good footballing Malin side. Malin got off to a blistering start kicking 4 unanswered points before Red Hugh’s got off the mark through James Callaghan after some excellent play from Tiarnan Kelly and Dylan Lafferty in creating the chance for James to convert. Red Hugh’s then got the next score of the boot of Jack Bradley and then had calls for a penalty where Jack Gillespie was pulled down. The referee judged it to be outside the box with Jack Gillespie converting the free. With 20 minutes gone the scores lay at 5 points to 3 with all to play for. In the last 10 minutes of the half Malin hit a purple patch again and pushed into a 11 point lead through a goal and some well taken points. Half time score Red Hugh’s 0-3 to 1-11.With all to do in the second half for Red Hugh’s and typical of the character in this team they came out fighting in the second half outscoring Malin in this half with points from Jack Gillespie and a penalty converted by Darragh. Final Score Red Hugh’s 1-04 Malin 1-14. Overall the boys can be proud of their season but will be disappointed in missing out in some silverware. Ryan, Damien, Gerard and Ciaran would like to thank the boys for their effort/commitment throughout the year and no doubt this group of players have big futures ahead of them.
