Raphoe Family Resource Centre

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of Raphoe Family Resource Centre will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 16th November in the Volt House. Everyone welcome.

Welcome

The Family Resource Centre would like to welcome Stephen Kavanagh to the project as Youth Support Worker with our Youth Programme. We look forward to working with Stephen over the next 12 months. We would like to extend thanks to Tús Supervisor Sharon Docherty for her continuing goodwill and support for our work.

Congratulations!

The Family Resource Centre extends warm congratulations to former Youth Support Worker Sinead McDaid on the recent birth of her baby son!

‘Helping Hands’

The Family Resource Centre’s ‘Helping Hands’ initiative supports older people by carrying out practical work such as grass-cutting, weed control, hedge-cutting, power-washing, cleaning windows, clearing gutters, exterior painting etc. For further information or a registration form please contact Laura at the Family Resource Centre on 074-9145796/087-3641503.

Junior Jiving Classes

The Family Resource Centre’s jiving classes for young people from 6th Class Primary School to 5th Year Secondary School continue each Thursday from 5-6pm. The classes with Highland Radio’s Terence Lafferty will be held in Raphoe Boxing Club. There is a charge of €3 per class. It is expected that the classes will be very popular so please phone us on 074-9145796/087-3641503 to book your place! Our sincere thanks to Raphoe Boxing Club for the kind use of its premises.

Women’s Group

The next meeting of the Family Resource Centre’s Women’s Group will take place on Monday 7th November at 8pm. The Women’s Group meets on a fortnightly basis and it take place on Mondays from 8pm here in the Family Resource Centre. We chat; we help each other out, make crafts, have cooking demonstrations, plan activities for International Women’s Day and have many social outings throughout the year. If you would like to be a part of this group, please don’t hesitate to come along. We are really interested in your ideas so please come along to the group. Something Special Group

The Group’s next meeting is taking place on Tuesday 8th November. The Group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 8pm. If you are a parent/guardian of a child with delayed communication or learning skills or Autism Spectrum Disorder, you will find support, advice and information by attending this support group. New members are always welcome. If you would like more information about the support group please contact Melanie on 0749145796 / 0873641503.

New programmes for children and young people

Please watch out for the return of kids’ computer classes in the next few weeks as well as the setting up of a Youth Committee, a Youth Magazine Group and an Environmental Group.

50-50 Bonus Ball

The winner of this week’s Bonus Ball was Eddie Harkin. Winning number was 17.
To enter the next Bonus Ball Draw please call into the Family Resource Centre in The Volt House before Saturday of each week. Good luck!

Raphoe Boxing Club

The officials of the Raphoe Boxing Club would like to extend a very sincere thanks to local man, Martin Conlon, Cathedral Hill for all his excellent work behind the scenes for the local boxing club. It is greatly appreciated by all.
On Sunday last the Raphoe Club had seven boxers entered for the Donegal Novice Championships in Letterkenny. – The McDaid brothers, Ryan and Aaron, Danny Buchanan, Ronan Kelly, Tom Doherty, Brendan O’Hagan and Darragh Devine. Five boxers won gold with young Brendan O’Hagan winning silver. Well done boys, you all did the Club proud.
The Raphoe Club will host their first major tournament of the new season with a bumper showpiece in the Deele College Sports Pavilion on Saturday 19th November, when the local boxing club will face the Ulster and Connacht All Stars. The Club’s Head Coach, Gary McCullagh has pencilled in 14 quality contests for the night. Very sincere thanks goes to all the generous sponsors of this tournament, for without their help the local club would fail to exist. Your support is gratefully appreciated.

Raphoe Kurling Club

Raphoe Kurling Club are hosting a social evening in Raphoe Presbyterian Church Hall on Tuesday 15th November from 8pm to 10.30pm. Music by Leslie Matthews. Join us for a night of fun, storytelling and music. Admission €8, which includes light refreshments and door prize. For further information contact Margaret Parke on 0857067208.

Raphoe Friday Club

The Friday Club meets every Friday morning in the Volt House Hall from 10.30am-12.30. We would like more in our community to come along and be a part of the Group. There will be events organised over the summer so come along and join in the craic! Refreshments are also provided. Transport is available on Friday mornings and if you require this please phone 0749145462 and arrange.

Christmas Craft Fair

There will be a Christmas Craft Fair in the Diamond, Raphoe from 12-6pm on Friday 25th November 2016 with crafts and bake sales all day. Santa will also be arriving. The switching on of the town’s Christmas lights will take place at 5pm approximately. A great fun day for all the family! For details on stalls please telephone The Volt House Reception on 074-9173966. Stalls will cost €20. Come and support this community event.
