Another Donegal motorist was in the dock yesterday after being caught driving at one of the highest speeds in the country – on National Slowdown Day.

The motorist was detected by Gardai driving at 129kph in a 100 kph zone at Trentabuoy, Drumkeen.

It comes a day after Gardai revealed how the fastest motorist in the country in the previous week was driving at 190kph in Castlefinn.

Another motorist in Donegal was caught doing 62 kph in a 50kph zone at Ballyraine, Letterkenny.

Gardaí and Go Safe revealed they checked a total of 85,434 vehicles with 191 of these detected travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit yesterday.

An Garda Síochána thanked the 85,243 vehicles who were using Irish roads today and were complying with speed limits.

“We would encourage all drivers to comply with and respect speed limits and drive safely,” said a Garda spokesman.
