Ballyliffin Golf Club Results by Phelim Davenport

There was a full weekend of golf in Ballyliffin making the best of the pleasant weather conditions.

The Friday Open was won by 6 handicapper Stephen Anderson with 38pts. In 2nd place was Desmond Nevin[8] with 35pts and 3rd was the man with the famous name David Cassidy[8] with 34pts.

The Saturday Open Stroke was claimed by a man who is starting to take his golf seriously, Dan Toland[19] made the most of his break from the oil business topost a nett 67 to take top spot. In 2nd place was Chris Yeates[7] with a 69 nett. In 3rd spot was the jolliest wee caddy in Ballyliffin Kevin Downey[10] also with a 69 nett. In 4th place was the man who gives me more headaches on a Sunday  than all the beer in Clonmany on a Saturday night Eamon O Donnell[16] was at it again also with a 69 nett. The Gross went to Cormac Mc Keone[4] with a 74.

The first outing of the Glashedy Winter Classic under the Captaincy of Kevin Mc Laughlin[h] took place on both courses on Sunday. A stiff cold East wind kept the scoring in check. The best score of the day came in the high section on the Old course, Padraig Porter[17] did like his namesake and came out on top with 40pts. In 2nd place was Tony Mc Eleney[17] with 36pts. In the Low section was the man who must be the best advertisement for getting married Garry Mc Geoghegan]4]  took 1st place with 36pts, are you paying attention Aaron. In 2nd spot was early man Jimmy Clancy[11] with 32pts. The back nine was won by Philip Farren with 18pts.

On the Glashedy course the Low section was won by that wily old fox Neil Grant[15] with 35pts. In 2nd place was an even jollier by now Kevin Downey[10] with 34pts In the High section  that man was back again Dan Toland[18] taking 1st place with 32pts. In 2nd place was a man who should struggle in the wind cause he wouldn’t spring a mousetrap Johnny Mc Geoghegan[21] with 30pts. The back nine went to the man with more vouchers than Tesco’s Hugh Mc Eleney with 18pts

The Wed. Soc was won by the Boss himself Martin Boyle with 39pts. In 2nd place was the man who has an even better handicap on a Wed. Eamon O Donnell with 38pts. In 3rd place was Pascal Harkin with 37pts.

Congratulations to Keith Marston who had a Hole in One at the 7th. He told me that was his 5th in a competition. Keep them coming Keith the free beer tasted great. In last weeks Wed. I said it was won by Ryanair’s finest pilot when in fact he is Aer Lingus’s finest pilot sorry Jason.  Happy Golfing.
