Gardai have set up a series of checkpoints in Letterkenny town centre in a bid to identify a man who carried out a serious sex attack on a young woman.

Earlier this week, Donegal Daily reported how a woman was attacked in her apartment in the town.

It is understood the woman was set upon as she slept in her bedroom after a man broke into her flat.

The attack happened between 4 and 5am on Sunday morning last, October 23rd.

The man fled the young woman’s flat moments after he entered the property and attacked her.

Gardai have confirmed they preserved the scene of the attack and examined it and state that their investigation is ongoing.

Gardai have been trawling through hours of CCTV footage in a bid to identify possible suspects who were in the area at the time.

Checkpoints were also set up last Saturday night in the area of the attack in a bid to jog people’s memories who may have witnessed the attacker hanging around the area.

Anybody with any information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda station on 0749167100.
