Gardai have identified a suspect in their investigation into a serious sex attack in Letterkenny.

Donegal Daily has learned that Gardai have identified a man through CCTV footage whom they would like to interview.

The man’s identity is not yet known but he was seen in and around the vicinity of the attack in the early hours of Sunday, October 23rd last.

No arrests have yet been made in the investigation.

Gardai have combed through countless hours of CCTV footage in a bid to track down the alleged attacker.

Gardai confirmed earlier this week that they preserved the scene of the alleged attack which is close to Letterkenny town centre.

It followed an incident in which a woman was attacked in her own apartment between the hours of 4 and 5am on Sunday morning, October 23rd.

Gardai are remaining tight-lipped about their investigation.

Gardai have also set up interviews in and around the area of the attack in a bid to jog people’s memories of the night of the attack.

Local county councillor Gerry McMonangle also pleaded with members of the public to come forward if they noticed anything suspicious on the night of the attack.

He also urged women to take all safety measures in their homes.
