Ballyliffin Golf Club Results by Phelim Davenport

It was another full weekend of golf in Ballyliffin played in Spring like conditions.

The Friday Open was won by J J Lafferty[19] with 37pts on the break of a tie from Oscar Mailey[6] also with 37pts. In 3rd place was Eugene Brophy[12] with 36pts.

The Saturday Open on Glashedy turned out to be just another page again in the Gary Mc Geoghegan honeymoon diaries, he shot a 1 under gross round to give him 41 stableford pts to take 1st place. Covering the front 9 in 3 under he was still 3 under standing on the 14th tee but Catriona didn’t pack enough sandwiches for him so he dropped 3 shots in the next 3 holes but recovered to finish birdie par. In  2nd place was another low man Ryan Doherty[5] with 39pts. In 3rd place was naturalised Carn man Brian Breslin[20] with 38pts. In 4th place was long distance man John Mullan[15] with 37pts. The Gross went to Brendan Devlin[0] with 33 gross pts.

Sunday was the 2nd outing of the Glashedy Winter Classic on both courses.

On Glashedy the winner of the low section was Gearoid Doherty[7] with 38pts on the break of a tie from Patsy Doherty[10] in 2nd place. The high section went to a new name in the winners circle Colm Fitzpatrick[17] with 38pts. In 2nd place was James Carr[16] with 37pts. The Back Nine went to Ciaran Mc Laughlin[hb] with 21pts.

On the Old Course the Low Section was won by Paul Grant[13] with 39pts followed home by Tesco man Hugh Mc Eleney[14] with 38pts. Not a handicap reduction in sight, how do they do it???. In the High Section Adrian Eastwood[21] took top spot with 37pts.2nd place went to Bernard Mc Clure[19] with 36pts. The Back Nine went to William Joyce with 21pts.

The Wed.Soc. was a runaway victory for Mr Ballyliffin Don Mc Gonagle with 40pts. 2nd place was taken by Mr Duracell Patsy Toland with 34pts. 3rd place went to the Bossman Martin Boyle with 34pts.

Just like to congratulate Patsy and Joan Doherty on winning the Club Mixed Foursomes title. They overcame their wee son Ryan who knew which side his bread  was buttered on  and Sadie Grant[n] in the final.
