Hotelier and county councillor Sean McEniff is reported to be in an induced coma following an accident in the Canary Islands.

He is said to be in a serious condition and is in intensive care in a Spanish hospital.

The news comes as the Fianna Fáil councillor was due to attend a sitting of Ballyshannon District Court today as a prosecution witness. Solicitor John Murray spoke on behalf of the McEniff family and produced medical documentation.

The court heard that the accident occurred while Cllr McEniff was on holiday. Judge Paul Kelly said he was sorry to hear about the councillor’s condition.

The Bundoran-based businessman has been a member of Donegal County Councillor for 49 years and is a former director of Bord Failte.
